Old Place of Monreith, also known as Dowies

Dates: 3 to 13 February 2012
Prices: from £500 (+VAT)

Old Place of Monreith, also known as Dowies, is a tall, stone farmhouse-cum-mini-castle halfway between Dumfries and Stranraer on the South West coast of Scotland, on land called The Machars, jutting out into the Irish Sea, north of the Isle Of Man. It is a three-hour drive from Carlisle station, eight miles from the nearest town (the lovely Wigtown, Scotland's Hay-on-Wye), down a dirt track almost a mile from the road. It once belonged to Sir Herbert Maxwell, and then Gavin Maxwell, of Ring of Bright Water fame.

This holiday will take place between Friday the 3rd and Monday the 13th of February 2012, with several options available so that you can tailor your booking to your unique needs.

The castle can accommodate 8 people of which 3 people are staff. Two twin bedrooms are available for participants. To view the floor plans please click here.

We will be catered for by an amazing macrobiotic chef, Jamie Trevena. Jamie frequently cooks for celebrities, so it’s a real treat to have him prepare our food. He catered for us at our Saddell Castle holiday in early February of 2011 and we were truly spoiled!

Kasia, Jamie’s wife and business partner, will also be with us running our very own Dowies Spa. She is an experienced practitioner qualified in Shiatsu massage, Thai Yoga, Thai Foot massage and Japanese health and beauty treatments. She is also a qualified yoga teacher and offers one to one and group yoga sessions for all levels. Except for a 30-minute taster massage included in the price of this holiday, spa treatments and yoga classes are not included in the price of the holiday, and all participants will be getting a price list closer to the time.
